Van is an associate in DeWitt’s litigation practice group. He focuses his practice on solving disputes through formal and informal dispute resolution. He focuses on quality research and writing to provide clients with concise, practical advice, and decision-makers with clear, focused presentations of the client’s position.
His prior legal experience includes working in summer associate positions with DeWitt LLP, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. While in law school, he was a member of the Marquette Sports Law Review and an Academic Success Program leader for first year students.
Van is an avid swimmer and has actively participated in the governance of the sport as an athlete and non-athlete. He served as an officer of the USA Swimming Board of Directors from 2014 through 2018. He was actively engaged in the organization’s governance restructure in 2017. He continues to serve USA Swimming by chairing background screening appeals.
Locally, Van is the Board Chair of Wisconsin Swimming, which is responsible for 66 member clubs and over 7000 members in Wisconsin. In this position, he oversees the organization’s operations, including a three person staff and budget of a quarter-million dollars.
Internationally, Van is the Vice President of Pan American Aquatics, which holds the principal responsibility of overseeing the organization of five aquatic disciplines, including the quadrennial Pan American Games, among 42 National Federations in the Americas, stretching from Canada to South America.
Van enjoys playing golf and traveling while not working.
