Appellate Litigation Services at DeWitt | DeWitt LLP

Our service area encompasses a comprehensive range of appellate advocacy, tailored to both defending trial outcomes and pursuing favorable changes. With a team of exceptional appellate advocates boasting diverse experience and a history of victories, we stand ready to navigate the complexities of appellate cases.

Our appellate advocates have a proven track record, having argued cases before various state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Courts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Oklahoma, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Seventh Circuit, Eighth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, Tenth Circuit, and the Federal Circuit. Beyond traditional courts, our experience extends to administrative agencies such as the Wisconsin Labor and Industry Review Commission (LIRC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), Wisconsin Department of Revenue, and more.

Whether serving as lead counsel, co-counsel, or providing strategic advice, our attorneys bring in-depth knowledge and experience to every appellate matter. Notably, our environmental and litigation attorneys secured a significant victory for Flambeau Mining Company in a Clean Water Act case before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Details of our appellate victories and the specific expertise of our practitioners can be explored on individual biography pages.

In one example, DeWitt litigators achieved success before the Wisconsin Supreme Court in a matter involving arbitrator misconduct. Attorneys Barret Van Sicklen, Deborah Meiners, and Jordan Rohlfing represented clients Lisa Taylor and Luis Cuevas, persuading the court that their objections to the arbitrator's conduct were valid despite the arbitrator falling asleep during an evidentiary hearing. The unanimous decision by the Wisconsin Supreme Court reversed and remanded the Court of Appeals' decision in Loren Imhoff Homebuilder, Inc. v. Taylor (2019AP002205).

Our appellate practice spans diverse areas, reflecting our ability to handle appeals in almost any practice area and jurisdiction. We emphasize not only experience in our appellate practice but also a deep understanding of the underlying subject matter. This dual proficiency ensures comprehensive representation in diverse fields, including but not limited to:

  • Banking
