Michael Haukaas is a patent attorney who helps innovators, entrepreneurs, research institutions, and established companies protect and maximize the value of their intellectual property. With deep technical expertise in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and related life sciences, he guides clients through the full patent lifecycle, from portfolio strategy and patent prosecution to licensing, due diligence, and risk assessment.
Michael focuses on domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution, helping clients secure meaningful protection for innovations across chemical compositions, pharmaceutical formulations, nutraceuticals, biotechnology, polymers, cosmetics, food technologies, and drug delivery systems. He collaborates closely with inventors, scientists, and business leaders to develop intellectual property strategies aligned with commercial goals and long-term growth.
In addition to patent prosecution, Michael advises clients on complex intellectual property issues, including patentability, inventorship, infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate analyses. His practical, business-focused approach helps clients assess risk, identify opportunities, and make informed decisions about product development, licensing, acquisitions, and commercialization.
Michael previously built and led a major chemical sciences patent practice and served as a senior intellectual property attorney at one of the nation’s largest intellectual property law firms. Before entering the legal profession, he conducted postdoctoral research in organic semiconductor synthesis and field-effect transistor technologies, providing firsthand experience in scientific innovation and technology development.
Michael’s advanced scientific training and legal experience enable him to translate complex technologies into practical intellectual property strategies that support his clients’ business goals. He is especially committed to helping innovators bring their technologies to market while building and protecting valuable intellectual property assets.
