Kathleen M. Newman Achieves Recertification in Family Law with the National Board of Trial Advocacy

GREEN BAY | MADISON | MILWAUKEE | MINNEAPOLIS - DeWitt LLP announced today that the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA) announced that Kathleen M. Neman has successfully achieved recertification as a Family Law advocate.  The NBTA was formed out of a strong conviction that both the law profession and its clients would benefit from an organization designed specifically to create an objective set of standards illustrating an attorney's experience and expertise in the practice of trial law.

About Newman:

Newman has extensive experience in all aspects of marital dissolutions, including cases with high net worth, closely owned businesses, professional practices, and complex custody matters and is well-versed in mediation and alternative dispute resolution.  In 35 years of practice, she has helped clients develop clients develop sophisticated and strategic solutions to preserve assets and maintain the marital standard of living.

Newman earned a J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law and a B.A. from Hamline University.  Newman is Board-Certified as a Family Law Trial Attorney by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.   She is also a skilled mediator, approved for inclusion in the Minnesota ADR Statewide Neutrals Roster in all categories of Family Neutrals and is on the Minnesota Supreme Courts list of Appellate mediators.  She is a Fellow with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Hennepin County Bar Association - Family Law Section, Minnesota State Bar Association - Family Law Section and the American Bar Association.

About NBTA:

Newman is part of a growing number of trial attorneys that have illustrated their commitment to bettering the legal profession by successfully completing a rigorous application process and providing the consumer of legal services with an objective measure by which to choose qualified and experienced legal counsel.

The elaborate screening of credentials that all NBTA board certified attorneys must successfully complete includes demonstration of substantial trial experience, submission of judicial and peer references to attest to their competency, attendance of continuing legal education courses and proof of good standing.

Board Certification is the highest, most stringent, and most reliable honor an attorney can achieve.  Board certifications are the only distinctions awarded by non-profit organizations.  The NBTA as well as all board certifying organizations are committed to safeguarding the public’s ability to choose a good attorney.

Approximately three percent of American lawyers are board certified, and Newman is a member of a very select group who has taken the time to prove competence in their specialty area and earn board certification.
