Megan is a skilled litigator with more than 16 years of experience in an abundant variety of cases. Megan focuses on complex commercial, contract and business disputes for both corporate and individual clients, including guiding clients regarding insurance recovery and risk management. Additionally, she handles professional ethics and discipline matters for attorneys and other professionals.

Whether a case is before a judge, jury, arbitrator or other administrative body – Megan consistently dedicates herself to the best possible outcome for her clients. That means listening to a client’s needs, goals and objectives, and providing pragmatic advice to achieve tenacious representation in an efficient manner. Additionally, she is a skilled appellate advocate with experience arguing complex cases in front of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Notable Representations

Megan is a consummate advocate for her clients and is attentive, approachable, conscientious and aggressive when she needs to be. She has utilized those skills to achieve successful results for a wide array of clients in the following matters:

  • Obtained policy limits under a commercial crime coverage form for a family owned business after it was discovered that an executive had been stealing from the company.

  • Defeated a $3 million breach of contract claim against a business via an early motion for summary judgment.

  • Establishing insurance coverage on behalf of a Wisconsin paper company against excess carriers for alleged environmental liabilities in excess of $100 million after a five-week jury trial in state court and successfully defending the jury’s verdict on appeal.

  • Obtaining a summary judgment decision in a CERCLA enforcement action in federal court that a company named by the Government in a Unilateral Administrative Order was not liable under CERCLA.

  • Successfully defending a general contractor from a $2.2 million damage claim relating to a mercury spill during a renovation project at a municipal water pollution control plant.

  • Establishing, after a six-week arbitration hearing, a constructive termination for convenience and obtaining a judgment in excess of $6 million on behalf of the general contractor in a construction dispute.

  • Establishing, in an appeal that went to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, that a homeowner’s insurer had breached its duty to defend and indemnify its policyholder after the insurer abandoned its policyholder when he was sued by his neighbors for allegedly violating a restrictive covenant.

  • Obtaining dismissal of a breach of contract case brought against a business after a terminated manager claimed he had been promised an ownership interest (valued by the plaintiff at approximately $400,000) in the business.

  • Obtaining a $1.85 million jury verdict after a two week jury trial in a civil rights case brought in federal court on behalf of the minor children of an unarmed man who was shot and killed by a City of Milwaukee Police Officer.

  • Obtaining reversal of a federal district court decision that her client, a mining company, had violated the Clean Water Act (CWA) – successfully arguing an appeal to the Seventh Circuit that the permit shield applied and her client did not violate the CWA.

  • Assisted a policyholder in successfully navigating complicated insurance coverage issues after a data breach resulted in significant losses.

Outside of the courtroom, Megan is also a passionate advocate for victims of domestic abuse and their animals. She is Co-Founder and President of Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims® (“SAAV®”), a 501(c)(3) all volunteer organization dedicated to ending the cycle of abuse within families. SAAV plays a unique role in this right by recognizing the importance of pets as vital family members and arranging for their safe harbor at a time of critical need – when a domestic abuse victim seeks safety from an abuser. She is a frequent author and speaker on the link between domestic violence and animal cruelty, featured in O Magazine for her work on behalf of SAAV. She is also the proud recipient of the Jack DeWitt Pro Bono Award and was recently featured on the Do Something Good Segment on Channel 3000.
